Chris Burk

Chris is a chemical process engineer with a passion for helping companies get their ideas out of the lab and into the market. He has worked in all stages of technology development across a range of industries, and he leverages this experience in conjunction with techno-economic analysis to help companies intelligently navigate the scale-up process.

Chris approaches techno-economic modeling with a software developer’s mindset. His models are user-friendly, modular, and well documented. He is an expert with Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic, and is well versed in using several process simulators. With the techniques, software, resources, and templates that he has developed over 10+ years of practice and study, he is able to quickly and cost-effectively get companies answers to their most important questions.

Prior to starting an independent consulting practice, Chris gained experience with both established companies and start-ups. He cut his teeth in the lab at Akzo-Nobel, optimizing synthesis processes for flame-retardant functional fluids. With Eltron Research & Development, he helped develop a wide range of technologies and processes while working on numerous SBIR-funded projects and their resulting spin-offs. With the fabrication shop Continental Technologies, he engineered and built pilot plants for clients including clean-tech start-ups, universities, and major oil companies. Most recently, as a Senior Engineering at New Sky Energy, he helped guide a novel sour gas treatment process from the lab, through pilot, and to initial commercialization. He is also the developer of the popular chemical engineering Excel add-in Process Utilities.

Chris is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. He holds BS and MEng Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. His graduate research was in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He believes in professionalism and the value of high-quality engineering work.
